The Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD), founded in 1967, is a fire and rescue organization composed of approximately 250 dedicated volunteers. The organization provides over 2,500 volunteer hours weekly, averaging around 20,000 emergency responses per year. Serving the growing suburban community of Dale City, Virginia—home to approximately 75,000 residents—DCVFD plays a critical role in fire and medical emergency services. In addition to serving Dale City, DCVFD also responds to emergencies at major locations such as Potomac Mills Mall and portions of I-95 and extends assistance to surrounding communities through mutual aid agreements.
Role Description
The Logistics Technician role is a full-time, on-site position located in Dale City, VA. This individual will be responsible for managing inventory, stock, and supplies essential for the fire department's operations. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring inventory levels, coordinating procurement processes, maintaining accurate inventory records, and providing efficient customer service in support of DCVFD operations. The Logistics Technician will also ensure that all equipment and materials are properly stored, organized, and readily available for immediate deployment.
The position will require a 40-hour workweek, comprising five (5) eight (8) hour days. The days and hours remain consistent each week to ensure continuity, with the working hours set from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Primary duties are:
- Picking up and dropping off equipment from Dale City fire stations or at local repair facilities.
- General housekeeping duties
- Minor equipment repairs and cleaning/readying for service.
- Packaging/un-packaging deliveries.
- Equipment stocking and inventory.
- Other duties as applicable.
The successful applicant must:
- Be capable of lifting packages weighing up to 50 lbs
- Possess a valid Virginia drivers license and provide a clean DMV driving record
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test
- Submit to a criminal history background check

- Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with inventory management software
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Benefits
As a full-time position, benefits are limited to sick leave earned at a rate of 4.0 hours per pay period. Vacation leave is also earned after the first year of employment at a rate of 80 hours per year. Retirement benefits offered. Health insurance benefits are not available.
