Overview
Join a new primary care medical practice as a Medical Assistant, where your welcoming attitude and organizational skills will set the tone for exceptional patient experiences. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring smooth clinic operations. This position offers a friendly environment where your proactive approach and attention to detail will make a meaningful difference in patient outcomes. Experience in healthcare and with electronic health record (EHR) systems is preferred. The position is part time for now, but we intend to expand the patient pool and the position may become full time.
Duties
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service while managing check-in and check-out procedures
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility verification, and facilitate insurance claims processing
- Assist patients with scheduling appointments in the EHR, and coordinate follow-up visits or procedures
- Maintain and update patient records in EHR systems, ensuring accuracy in documentation review, medical records management, and adherence to HIPAA regulations
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting medical history information, updating demographic data, and taking vital signs
- Administer point of care testing and vaccines
- Support billing processes by collecting payments, processing medical collections, and managing billing inquiries related to Medicare or other insurance providers
- Support the medical provider with general clinic operations
- The clinic's EHR is Athenahealth - paid EHR training provided
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with primary care clinic experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, CPT coding, and medical billing practices preferred
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth, Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Dentrix is highly desirable
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new office management software
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations with integrity and confidentiality
- Bilingual abilities are a plus (especially Chinese or Spanish)
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail for documentation review and filing accuracy
- Strong communication skills demonstrating professional etiquette and customer service excellence
- Office experience involving clerical tasks such as filing, data entry (10 key typing), and medical records management
- A willing attitude, ready to take on any task to help the clinic and our patients thrive
