Job Description
The Pharmacy Assistant supports the hospital pharmacy in dispensing medicines, maintaining stock, handling billing, and ensuring proper storage of drugs. The role requires accuracy, basic knowledge of medicines, and coordination with doctors, nurses, and patients.
Key Responsibilities
1. Dispensing & Patient Support
- Assist pharmacist in dispensing medicines as per prescription
- Ensure correct medicine, dosage, and quantity is issued
- Explain basic dosage instructions to patients when required
- Check expiry date before issuing medicines
2. Inventory Management
- Maintain proper stock of medicines and consumables
- Monitor near-expiry and expired medicines
- Arrange medicines in racks as per category/system
- Inform pharmacist/admin for low stock items
- Receive and verify medicines from suppliers
3. Billing & Documentation
- Generate pharmacy bills using hospital software/manual system
- Maintain daily sales and stock register
- Record narcotic / schedule drugs as per rules (if applicable)
- Maintain purchase and issue records
4. Storage & Compliance
- Ensure medicines stored as per temperature guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness of pharmacy area
- Follow FIFO/FEFO (First Expiry First Out) method
- Support in audits and inspections
5. Coordination
- Coordinate with doctors and nursing staff for medicine availability
- Assist in emergency medicine arrangement
- Handle patient queries related to medicine availability
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy Assistant / D. Pharm (Preferred)
- Minimum 1 year experience in hospital pharmacy (preferred)
- Freshers with relevant knowledge can also apply
