CSI Corrosion Protection is seeking a Quality Control Inspector – Coatings​ who will be responsible for inspecting and verifying surface preparation and coating activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality system requirements.

Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

  • Inspect surface preparation activities to ensure compliance with applicable standards (SSPC/AMPP, NACE, ISO 8501, ANSI, CSA Z245.20).
  • Verify surface cleanliness, profile, and absence of contaminants prior to coating application.
  • Monitor and record environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity, dew point) before and during coating operations.
  • Inspect coating application to ensure compliance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Perform and document coating inspections including:
  • Dry film thickness (DFT) measurements
  • Wet film thickness (WFT) measurements
  • Visual inspection of coating condition
  • Cure times and recoat window verification
  • Identify and document coating defects (e.g., runs, sage, pinholes, holidays, adhesion issues) and ensure appropriate disposition.
  • Perform and document inspection activities in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Complete coating inspection reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review coating-related documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Maintain inspection records in accordance with quality management system requirements and document control procedures.
  • Ensure all coating activities comply with applicable client specifications, codes and standards (including SSPC/AMPP, ISO, ANSI, and CSA Z245.20), as well as internal procedures.
  • Identify, document, and report non-conforming work; support corrective and preventive actions (NCRs, CPARs).
  • Verify completion of required hold and witness points prior to release of work.
  • Participate in internal and external (client/third-party) quality audits as required.
  • Liaise with production, QA/QC, and client representatives (internal or external) to ensure alignment of coating requirements, inspection activities, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure inspection coverage, communication, and workflow alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to coating quality, inspection processes, and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in industrial coatings inspection, quality control, or a related role within a fabrication or industrial shop environment.
  • Demonstrated experience inspecting surface preparation and coating application in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Experience completing inspection reports and maintaining quality records within a controlled documentation system.
  • Proven ability to identify coating defects and support non-conformance reporting and corrective actions.
  • Experience working in production environments alongside blasting, coating, and fabrication operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of coating inspection standards and practices, including SSPC/AMPP and ISO 8501 surface preparation standards.
  • Solid understanding of coating application requirements and inspection hold/witness points per Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Technical knowledge of high-performance industrial coating systems (e.g., epoxy systems, zinc-rich primers, novolac coatings, thermal spray aluminum).
  • Understanding of coating system components (primer, intermediate, and finish coats) and their application requirements.
  • Knowledge of environmental factors affecting coating performance (dew point, relative humidity, temperature).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems and non-conformance reporting (NCR, CPAR) processes.
  • Proficient in the use of coating inspection instruments (DFT/WFT gauges, profile gauges, environmental monitoring tools, holiday detectors where applicable).
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate documentation and reporting skills.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills in a production environment.
