About Creator Engine
Creator Engine is a post-production studio working across television and digital content for US broadcast and international digital media. We run fast-moving pipelines across multiple formats - and the quality of everything the creative team touches depends on the technical foundation being clean, correct, and ready.
About the Role
This is not a creative role. The Assistant Editor (Technical) is the person who makes sure the pipeline moves - not the person who shapes what's inside it.
You receive raw footage, organise it correctly, sync it, build proxies, prep sequences, and hand off to the editor with everything in order and nothing missing. You track the state of every active project, run QC passes and write reports, and flag problems before they travel downstream. When the same problem keeps showing up, you're already thinking about whether there's a better way to catch it - or automate it entirely.
The work rewards people who are precise, proactive, and genuinely interested in how post-production pipelines work. It is not a stepping stone to a creative editing role. If that's where you're headed, this isn't the right seat. If you want to build deep technical pipeline knowledge and grow toward a coordination or supervisory role, this is.
For this role, what matters is the mindset: detail-oriented, self-directed, and always looking to understand the system they're inside.
What You'll Own
- Ingest and organisation of raw footage - file naming, folder structure, storage, logged correctly every time
- Proxy creation and multicam sync, with clear notes on anything that doesn't line up
- Sequence prep for the editor - organised, labelled, and handed off with a written note on what's there and what was flagged
- QC passes on exports - frame rate, codec, audio - checked against spec, documented in a report
- Project tracking - knowing the state of the pipeline across active projects at any point in the day
- Identifying recurring technical problems and finding smarter ways to catch or prevent them - including through AI tools and automation
- Archival and media management across active and completed projects
This Role Is Not for You If
- You want to be a video editor and see this as a way in
- You find detailed, process-driven technical work demotivating
- You move fast by skipping steps rather than building a faster version of the correct process
- You wait to be told something is wrong before looking for it yourself
- You treat tracking and reporting as admin rather than as part of the job
You'll Thrive Here If
- You find it satisfying to hand something off cleaner than you received it
- You pick up technical workflows quickly and immediately start asking how to do them better
- You notice discrepancies - in file names, in sync, in spec - before anyone else points them out
- You're comfortable in Excel and use it to keep things structured, not just to store information
- You follow AI developments in post-production and actively look for tools that can make technical pipelines smarter
- You figure things out - when something is new or unclear, you find the answer before asking for it
What You Bring
- Solid understanding of a post-production environment - ingest, proxy workflows, multicam sync, or technical QC.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve
- A solid understanding of video formats, codecs, and frame rates - enough to know when something is wrong
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for tracking and reporting
- Familiarity with AI tools and genuine curiosity about how they apply to media management and post-production workflows
- Clear written communication: your handoff notes tell the editor exactly what they need to know, without follow-up questions
What will differentiate you is not your years of experience - it's your technical mindset, your attention to detail, and the way you treat every project you touch as something worth getting right.
