Job Description
Total AI Systems, Inc. is looking for a serious System Administrator —someone who understands servers not as dashboards, but as systems that break, recover, perform, and stay online under pressure.
We run production environments powering PHP-based web applications on Linux servers using Apache and SQL databases. This role is focused on real server operations , not cloud abstraction layers.
You will own how servers are configured, secured, optimized, and kept stable in production. From handling traffic spikes to debugging slow queries and fixing misbehaving services—you are the person engineering relies on when systems go down.
This is a hands-on, operator role , not a coordination or vendor-management position. If you enjoy working directly with Linux servers, tuning performance, and solving real production issues—this role is for you.
We are not looking for someone who only works on AWS consoles or follows playbooks without understanding the system underneath.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Configuring and managing Linux-based production servers
- Installing, configuring, and optimizing Apache, PHP, and MySQL/MariaDB stacks
- Monitoring system health, uptime, and performance of web applications
- Troubleshooting server, application, and database issues in production environments
- Managing backups, restoration processes, and disaster recovery strategies
- Implementing server security: firewalls, access controls, patching, and hardening
- Optimizing server performance for high-traffic web applications
- Handling deployments, migrations, and server upgrades
- Supporting engineering teams with environment setup and issue resolution
- Owning production stability—you configure it, you keep it running
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Linux production servers
- Strong experience with Apache, PHP, and MySQL
- Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking, and server architecture
- Experience troubleshooting real-time production issues
- Ability and willingness to work in a high-responsibility environment
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Extremely dependable—when systems fail, you take ownership and fix them
Strongly Preferred
- Linux+ certification or equivalent
- Experience with control panels like cPanel/WHM
- Strong command-line and shell scripting (Bash) skills
- Experience with server monitoring and logging tools
- Understanding of DNS, SSL, and network-level debugging
- Experience handling high-availability setups and load balancing
- Basic exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, etc.)—but not primary focus
What We Mean by “Operator Mindset”
We’re looking for someone who:
- Knows why a server slowed down—not just that it did
- Understands how PHP, Apache, and MySQL interact under load
- Can debug issues from logs, metrics, and system behavior—not guesswork
- Automates repetitive tasks but understands manual recovery deeply
- Takes ownership of uptime, performance, and system health
What Success Looks Like
- Servers remain stable, secure, and consistently performant
- Production issues are identified and resolved before major impact
- Web applications run smoothly under varying traffic conditions
- Backups and recovery processes work reliably when needed
- Deployments and changes do not introduce instability
- Engineering teams trust infrastructure and don’t get blocked
