Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Civil Surveyor role based in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area. The Civil Surveyor will perform field surveys for underground utilities and civil infrastructure projects, including establishing control points, setting out alignments, grades, and elevations, and collecting as-built data. The role involves operating surveying instruments (such as total stations, GNSS/GPS, and levels), managing survey data, and preparing clear field notes and digital records. The Civil Surveyor will collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, engineers, and construction crews to ensure design intent is accurately translated into the field. Responsibilities also include verifying quantities, assisting with quality control, identifying and reporting discrepancies or potential conflicts, and adhering to all site safety procedures and company policies.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with surveying equipment and software (e.g., total station, GNSS/GPS, automatic level, data collectors, and common AUTO CAD or survey processing tools).
- Strong knowledge of construction surveying principles, civil infrastructure layout, and reading/interpreting engineering drawings and utility plans.
- Ability to collect accurate field data, maintain detailed survey records, and produce clear as-built information for project documentation.
- Solid understanding of site safety practices, risk mitigation, and working safely around active construction and underground utilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with site crews, project managers, and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant technical diploma or degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience as a field surveyor or survey assistant in civil or utility construction is preferred.
- Valid BC driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and willingness to travel to job sites across the Greater Vancouver area as required.
