Job description
At Commure, we're building the AI Operating System for healthcare, the foundation that defines how care is delivered, documented, and financed. Our platform spans the full care journey: Ambient AI and Dictation eliminating documentation burden at the point of care, intelligent Agents automating patient and revenue workflows, and autonomous RCM processing billions in claims, all on a single AI-native platform integrated with 60+ EHRs.
Healthcare carries a $1 trillion administrative burden and we're at the center of transforming it. Today, 500,000+ clinicians across 500+ healthcare organizations nationwide trust Commure to handle $25B+ in annual claims and support over 200 million patient interactions. Our latest $70M raise at a $7B valuation reflects the confidence the market has placed in this mission. We've also been named to the Fortune Future 50 list and the 2026 AI Breakthrough Awards for “Overall NLP Company of the Year.”
Our team works directly alongside clinicians, not through layers of process, which means the gap between what you build and its impact on patient care is immediate. We move fast, deploy daily, and take full ownership from early thinking to production. If you're energized by hard problems, high stakes, and a team that holds itself to a high bar, you'll find your people here.
The future of healthcare is being built right now. Come deliver this transformation.
About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager who will manage the R&D engineering team at Commure, the team taking emerging technology from inception to impact. We scout new capabilities — a frontier LLM that can chain tool calls, browser agents that can navigate the web, new agent harnesses that can self improve — and figure out how to productionize them for healthcare. Our job is the full arc: research the technology, productize it, deliver it to customers, and own it as a P&L until it graduates.
Graduation has taken the following shapes in the past:
- Embedded into an existing product — e.g., the AI Copilot in our practice management suite.
- Becomes its own product — e.g., Air, the EHR.
- Becomes an internal RCM workflow that saves the company millions annually — e.g., EOB web agents and appeal agents.
This role will be hybrid and based in our Mountain View, CA headquarters.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow a team of 3+ engineers, ensuring clarity of purpose, healthy execution, and strong collaboration
- Maintain the team’s startup mindset as we grow, excelling in fast-paced environments where priorities and objectives can shift
- Own the technical execution and delivery of the backend systems, automation platforms, and agent infrastructure that power this pipeline - ensuring they scale alongside the company
- Partner closely with Product, Ops, and cross-functional teams to translate high-value problems into shipped solutions, filling gaps as necessary across the research-to-production spectrum
- Manage project and resource prioritization, ensuring the team works on the most important work streams with the right level of urgency and technical rigor
- Uphold high standards in system design, code quality, and engineering operations, fostering a culture of reliability and ownership
- Coach and develop engineers, supporting career growth, technical excellence, and a high-performing culture that can move from 0 to 1 and sustain what it builds
What You Have
- 4+ years of experience developing software, with a background in shipping products in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling environment
- 1+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, performance reviews, and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration
- A strong foundation as an individual contributor, with the ability to roll up your sleeves, dive into the codebase, and problem-solve directly alongside the team when needed
- Strong technical background with expertise in modern backend development (e.g., Python - fastAPI, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes) and frontend development (Javascript - React) to build broad, event-driven platforms
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate strongly with cross-functional teams and effectively present technical concepts to leadership
- A passion for healthcare innovation and making a meaningful impact on patient care
- Experience managing and scaling teams of 8+ engineers, ideally with sub-team leads or tech leads reporting to you
- Proven ability to deliver platform-scale systems that are reliable, maintainable, and scalable
- Proven experience as a technical leader with the ability to make key architectural and strategic decisions that influence the overall product direction
- Proven ability to manage resource allocation, ensuring that projects are completed on time and with the right level of technical rigor
