Campus Security Guard (1 year contract)

The Campus Security Department is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, visitors, and stakeholders on all Columbia International College academic and residential properties.

We provide training and experience in areas such as access control, investigations, interviewing, report writing, presentations, patrols, and numerous opportunities to manage different circumstances.

Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

• Conduct regular patrols of the school, residence buildings, and surrounding areas to identify unauthorized or suspicious activities.

· Respond promptly to emergency situations, including medical incidents, fire alarms, or security breaches.

· Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire or medical personnel during emergencies.

· Conduct investigations internally, interviewing, cross checking and liaising with cross department teams

· Ensure a safe and secure environment in the lunchrooms, school and residential grounds and parking lots

• Verify that all students and staff display appropriate ID badges before entering buildings.
• Manage access to school and residence properties to allow entry only for authorized individuals.
• Confirm the identities of vendors, contractors, and visitors entering and exiting school and residence buildings to prevent unauthorized access, while maintaining accurate visitor logs.
• Monitor school entrances, hallways, parking lots and other key areas to ensure a secure environment.
• Supervise parking lots to ensure no unauthorized vehicles are present and that parked cars display valid parking permits.
• Control traffic in school campus parking lots by directing drivers
• Contact appropriate authorities when necessary

· Monitor CCTV cameras to verify any unlawful or unusual activity.

• Maintain thorough written reports and records through security reports, control room logs, and personal notebook entries.

· Build positive relationships with students, staff, vendors, contractors, and parents, ensuring a visible and approachable security presence.

· Lock and unlock campus buildings and offices as necessary

• Diffuse tensions and intervene in escalating conflicts as necessary.
• Maintains organization reputation by complying with legal requirements

· Address violations of safety protocols and escalate issues to the appropriate authorities

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

· A diploma in Police Foundations or a related field is preferred.

· A valid Ontario Security Guard License is required.

· Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (Level C) is required.

· A reliable vehicle and valid G license is required.

· Ability to stay calm and act decisively in emergencies is essential.

· Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding the English language is required.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

License Required: Ontario Security Guard License

• *Training will be provided to respond to emergency calls, including medical matters and fire alarms.

Hours of Work:

· Must be available to work scheduled shifts as needed, which may include evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays.

· The role may require standing or walking for extended periods and working in various weather conditions.

· The role may require working at different locations.

· Must have reliable transportation.
