Job Description
As an Interconnection Analyst at Cleantech Industry Resources, your primary responsibility will be to navigate the technical and regulatory aspects of utility interconnection for renewable energy and energy storage projects. With 48 years of relevant experience, you will prepare and review interconnection packages, analyze utility and regulatory guidelines, and evaluate transmission and distribution tariffs, costs, and timelines. Your role will involve supporting both front-of-the-meter (FTM) and behind-the-meter (BTM) projects across various RTO regions while optimizing strategies for grid integration and state incentive programs. **Core Responsibilities:** - **Interconnection Process Management** - Understand and manage interconnection requirements, processes, timelines, and tariff rules across relevant RTOs/ISOs. - Track and oversee interconnection studies, applications, and follow-up requirements for the project portfolio. - Serve as the primary technical lead and point of contact with ISOs, RTOs, utilities, and transmission service providers for interconnection activities. - Collaborate with engineering and development teams to ensure timely application submissions and strategy optimization. - **Technical Analysis and Strategy Development** - Identify optimal interconnection strategies using system impact study reports and grid/hosting capacity insights. - Analyze interconnection results, interpret study reports, and provide actionable technical recommendations. - Evaluate interconnection system costs and recommend schedule adjustments aligned with project development timelines. - **Application Preparation and Coordination** - Prepare, review, and validate interconnection packages to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. - Coordinate applications with internal teams, consultants, utilities, and external stakeholders. - Review and peer-audit engineering designs and technical data to support application completeness. - **Stakeholder Engagement and Negotiation** - Support negotiations of technical terms in interconnection agreements. - Contract and manage consultants for injection analysis, technical design, and other deliverables. - Provide interconnection expertise for site selection, bid proposals, project financing, and project handoffs to execution teams. - **Regulatory Compliance and Documentation** - Navigate, interpret, and apply utility documentation and policy frameworks. - Stay updated on utility, commission, and regulatory standards to ensure compliance. - Assist in responding to regulatory queries and ensuring alignment with technical requirements. - **Cross-Functional Support and Collaboration** - Foster collaboration by facilitating the exchange of technical information across engineering, development, and legal teams. - Participate in team meetings and maintain regular communication with team members to align project objectives. **Education Requirements:** - Bachelors degree in electrical engineering (EE) is mandatory. **Technical Skills and Experience:** - **Technical Proficiency:** - Proficient in technical document review and preparation. - Knowledge of relevant tools and software. - In-depth knowledge of regulated and deregulated utility transmission networks in the US market. - **Project Management:** - Experience in managing design projects. - Ability to coordinate with other engineers and stakeholders. - **Renewable Energy Systems:** - Extensive knowledge of storage and solar project development. - Firm understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and power flow modeling. **Experience:** - Minimum 4+ years of experience in transmission and distribution planning. **Psychosocial Skills /Human Skills/Behavioural Skills:** - Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. - Entrepreneurial mindset with project management experience. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
