The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Engineering department as a Growth Infrastructure Engineer.
Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management, Land and Integrated Infrastructure Services, this position will be responsible for supporting the orderly and efficient expansion of municipal infrastructure to accommodate long term city growth. The candidate will leverage broad multidisciplinary engineering across various fields including transportation, utilities, geotechnical, with additional consideration towards land planning, finance, and environmental to provided strategic oversight ensuring future infrastructure systems are appropriately sized, aligned, and staged to accommodate long term City growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide city‑wide leadership on long‑term infrastructure planning by coordinating growth‑related engineering plans, assist with capital planning for growth related projects, and determining off‑site infrastructure timing, while promoting resilient design to ensure infrastructure is delivered efficiently, sustainably, and on time to support future growth and manage risks. Lead and coordinate comprehensive, multidisciplinary engineering reviews for development applications such as Neighbourhood Plans, Subdivisions, and Servicing Design Briefs, to ensure alignment with City master plans, long-term servicing strategies, and local geotechnical conditions, while identifying risks, resolving conflicts, and supporting timely, well-integrated growth decisions. Act as the primary engineering liaison between developers and internal City teams by coordinating near- and long-term infrastructure planning, aligning cross‑functional engineering input, proactively identifying servicing needs, and supporting orderly growth through clear and effective communication.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering combined with 7 years of progressive experience in Municipal, Civil, or Land Development Engineering. Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation and in good standing with APEGA. Knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal engineering design standards is required. Experience with ArcGIS is preferred. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Hours of Work
- We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO). Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Compensation
- The salary ranges from $103,373 – $125,825 per year, including a comprehensive benefits package with a flexible spending account, pension plan, and accrued paid vacation starting at 3 weeks per year. - Eligible to apply for a Hybrid Remote Work arrangement, with a minimum of 51% of work time spent onsite and the remainder worked remotely. Employees are eligible to participate in this program after 3 months of employment, subject to satisfactory performance.
