Job Summary Provides security at various buildings and properties owned by the City of Dallas to prevent crime and protectoccupants. Job Description - Overview The Security Officer provides security at various buildings and City properties to prevent crime, serve the city, and protects its citizens and occupants.
Responsibilities
- Patrols inside and outside of buildings and other city properties to ensure enforcement of city ordinance, state laws, and regulations; performs security duties in and around City property and assists in controlling disturbances on City property, takes necessary action to prevent injury to persons and loss of property, and reports all circumstances to immediate supervisor
- Inspects, secures and unlocks City owned properties to regulate access and protect city facilities/properties against theft or destruction.
- Makes arrests of violators for misdemeanor or felonies committed in officer's presence, detains and/or transports offenders to jail in order to protect persons and property; enforces City policies.
- Summons appropriate personnel in the event of an emergency; responds to fire alarms, bomb threats, medical emergencies, burglar alarms, and other calls for service.
- Renders basic first-aide in the event of injury while on city property.
- Issues traffic and non-traffic citations to violators in order to enforce city ordinances, codes or laws; provides security for buildings, monitors clearance, and provides back up to police officers as needed.
- Maintains accurate records of patrol activities, documenting incidents occurring on city property.
- Responds to telephone calls and walk-in inquires pertaining to lost property or gives general information to individuals using city facilities; monitors cameras and assists with investigations; observes activities for illegality.
- Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
- Ability to carry Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray, taser, baton, and other essential job implements, with the requisite training and qualification
Requirements
- Ability to use fire arms properly.
- Ability to interact with a multi-ethnic population and workforce.
- Basic knowledge of the laws and regulations of the State of Texas.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read and write.
- Communicating effectively and clearly verbally and in writing.
- Handling and subduing irate or problematic citizens and keeping peace.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.
- EXPERIENCE: One (1) year law/code enforcement and/or security/protective service experience where primary responsibilities include performing enforcement and/or investigative support.
- EQUIVALENCIES: Thirty (30) completed college semester credit hours (or more) will meet the education and experience requirements. Associate degree (or higher) in any field will meet the education and experience requirements. A minimum of thirty-six (36) months active service in the Armed Forces of the United States of America with an Honorable Discharge will meet the education and experience requirements.
- LICENSE and CERTIFICATIONS: Valid driver’s license with good driving record. Must obtain Level II & III Security Commission Certifications issued by the Private Security Bureau of the Texas Department of Public Safety within probationary period. Must pass the Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security awareness exam within probationary period.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass intensive background investigation, physical, eye exam, polygraph, psychological exams, as well as drug and alcohol testing. No FELONY convictions. Must not have EVER been convicted of OR placed on deferred adjudication/court ordered community supervision/probation for a CLASS A MISDEMEANOR. Must not have been convicted of OR placed on deferred adjudication/court ordered community supervision/probation for a CLASS B MISDEMEANOR as an adult within the last ten (10) years. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
