What you’ll be doing
Compliance & Global Regulatory Affairs (Compliance & GRA) assists our Bank in developing and executing a robust and proactive regulatory compliance and regulatory affairs strategy, and effectively managing regulatory risk. The Compliance and EAML Examination Program (CEEP) team, is a group within the Compliance Department, and consists of several multi-skilled examination teams, including the Canadian Retail Banking (CRBC) Examination team. This team is responsible to execute regulatory compliance examinations of various LOBs with the objective to independently assess the design and operating effectiveness of management’s control environment and adherence to regulatory requirements such as regulations defined by OSFI and FCAC (Bank Act and the Financial Consumer Protection Framework).
Reporting to the Senior Director, Compliance and EAML Examinations Program, the Regulatory Compliance Examiner is responsible to manage and execute regulatory examinations and ensure adequate planning, fieldwork and reporting of results as per CEEP methodology and procedures. The Regulatory Compliance Examiner will have a strong understanding of applicable regulatory requirements as well as knowledge of CIBC lines of business, Governance Groups, Oversight Functions and Compliance. In addition to working on the Canadian Retail Banking portfolio, Compliance Officers will support other examination portfolios within the broader CEEP team, if required.

How you’ll succeed
- Regulatory Oversight - You will monitor upcoming changes in the industry and support questions from the business and team regarding regulations, best practices and internal policies and procedures.
- Execute Examinations - You will use your well-developed examinations skills to evaluate the effectiveness of processes, controls and compliance with regulatory requirements and identify and recommend areas for improvement.
- Teamwork and collaboration – You will share your knowledge and assist team members with their examinations and help to implement changes as required to strengthen the Compliance Testing Program. You will support a safe environment in which different opinions are welcomed.
- Communication and interpersonal skills - You exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills. You have the ability to communicate effectively with different lines of business regarding the Regulations and the results of the examination.
- Relationship Building - You will establish and maintain positive working relationships with various LOBs, Compliance partners, internal audit and other Governance partners to help them develop and implement an appropriate regulatory compliance culture, compliance risk and control processes that are effective, cost-efficient that help achieve business objectives.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate working experience executing examinations/audits or compliance reviews. You have a strong understanding of the Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) policy. You possess an understanding of the regulatory environments applicable to financial institutions, including regulations defined by in the Bank Act and the Financial Consumer Protection Framework. You have an understanding of the Canadian Banking Retail products, services, and channels.
- You have a University Degree/College Diploma or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience within the financial/compliance/audit industry
- You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in CIA, CPA, ACCA or CISA
