POSITION SUMMARY Perform procedures within the laboratory in accordance with protocol and licensing regulations Operate and maintain all equipment necessary to carry out these procedures Recognize the need for additional procedures and performs tests as required Identify technical problems or unusual test results and take appropriate corrective action Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skill level of all relevant procedures Participate in development and method evaluation Conform to all laboratory safety regulations, and follow specific instructions of the designated safety officer Perform additional duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the laboratory (e.g. cleaning equipment, maintaining solutions/supplies, keeping a clean and safe workplace) Provide coverage for technicians when required Participate in the quality assurance program (e.g. routine QA activities of the laboratory, review of procedures, and timely reporting of discrepancies and incidents) QUALIFICATIONS Criminal Record Check (CRC) (Essential) Current registration as active technologist with the CMLTO and license in relevant disciplines or equivalent qualifications with recognition from the CMLTO (Essential) MSc or BSc. Degree in Laboratory/Health Related Field. (Preferred) Minimum of 1 year experience in a Biochemistry laboratory and/or high throughput laboratory with complex batch workflows (Preferred) Experience in laboratory/test method development and optimization (Preferred) Working knowledge of mass spectrometry and chromatography technology and techniques (Preferred) Demonstrated team work, initiative, and customer service skills (Essential) Accuracy and precision in performing laboratory procedures (Essential) Ability to organize workload, and good work habits (Essential) Professionalism and ability to exercise good judgment (Essential) *Timeline may be extended or shortened based on operational needs. *Please note you will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). Please note that this position will be based out of Ottawa. Please note that location may be subject to change at any time at the discretion of the employer. All OPSEU members shall be granted an interview upon passing the pre-screening. Pre-screening might include testing. Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested. Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
