R&D Chemist

Job Summary

Full time duties to include assisting in product and formula development, synthesis work, and quality control testing.

BS in chemistry or a science discipline required. This position will work solely out of our Altoona, PA production facility. One to two years inverse emulsion polymer research is ideal, but we are willing to train a candidate that matches our company philosophies.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Takes ownership of lab with respect to housekeeping and organization.
• Able to work together with others to test samples and report findings in a timely manner.
• Meticulously record data, take pride in work and report consistent findings.
• Escalate any out-of-specification occurrences as soon as known.
• Work with Research Laboratory in deployment of new products to the production floor.
• Remain calm in a fast-paced environment, take pride in your work.
• Maintains quality and quantity production standards.
• Properly dispose of all necessary waste only as designated by production supervisor.

Other (Non-Essential) Functions

• Communicates with Supervisors, Operators, and Adjusters on and off shift.
• Complies with safety rules and regulations (wear proper safety attire; steel toed shoes or coverings, hearing protection when necessary, safety glasses, shields and gloves as needed), is not involved in horseplay, is cautious when near equipment and machines, always make sure safety guards are in place and operational. Maintains clean machine and work area (sweeps, removes waste, etc).
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

• Regularly required to stand or walk.
• Must be able to climb steps to load raw materials.
• Must be able to climb ladders on tank trucks, utilizing all proper fall protection techniques.
• Occasional exposure to hazardous materials – all employees will be familiar with readily available SDS sheets and proper PPE requirements for all materials handled.
