Job Description
Prodution Supervisor – Injection Molding (Plastics Manufacturing)
If you’ve spent time on a production floor and know injection molding isn’t something you manage from a desk, this role is built for you.
This is a hands-on leadership position at a smaller plastics facility producing 5-gallon buckets. You’ll have real ownership over operations, driving production, solving problems in real time, and leading a tight-knit team where your impact is visible every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
You won’t just be overseeing production; you’ll be in it.
- Lead a team of 6 across production, maintenance, quality, and shipping
- Run daily injection molding operations, including scheduling and staffing
- Monitor and improve machine uptime, cycle efficiency, and throughput
- Manage scrap reduction, downtime tracking, and labor efficiency
- Oversee machine setup, mold/tooling changes, and process adjustments
- Coordinate preventative maintenance to keep equipment running reliably
- Ensure product meets quality specs, tolerances, and customer requirements
- Maintain control of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory
- Troubleshoot processing issues, mechanical problems, and production bottlenecks
- Track and report KPIs (production output, scrap rates, downtime, OEE)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives on the floor
- Enforce safety standards and 5S practices in a manufacturing environment
Technical Skills That Matter
This role is ideal for someone who understands how plastic parts are made, not just managed.
- Injection molding processes (setup, cycle optimization, troubleshooting)
- Experience with thermoplastics and molding parameters (temperature, pressure, cooling, cycle time)
- Familiarity with molds, tooling changes, and machine setup
- Understanding of preventative maintenance systems and equipment reliability
- Ability to analyze scrap, downtime, and production data
- Exposure to quality control processes and product specifications
- Working knowledge of production scheduling and workflow coordination
- Comfortable using spreadsheets, production reports, and basic systems
What They’re Looking For
- 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or production leadership
- Background in injection molding or plastics manufacturing is strongly preferred
- Someone who leads from the floor, not from behind a desk
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced production environment
- No degree required—hands-on experience matters more
Work Environment
- Active role on the production floor, expect to be on your feet and engaged
- Manufacturing setting with heat, noise, and moving equipment
- Occasional lifting of materials or finished goods
