Role Description This is a part-time, on-site Cable Technician role based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada.
The Cable Technician will install, terminate, label, and test network and structured cabling for commercial clients, including voice, data, and low-voltage systems.
Daily tasks include pulling and routing cables, assisting with server room, rack, and cabinet installations, and supporting fiber, surveillance, access control, and audio-visual deployments. The role involves using hand tools and test equipment to complete work safely, accurately, and in compliance with company standards and industry codes. The technician will also document work performed, maintain a clean job site, follow safety procedures, and collaborate with project leads and other technicians to meet project timelines.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience working with cables and cabling, including pulling, routing, terminating, labeling, and testing low-voltage lines.
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practices for commercial environments (e.g., racks, patch panels, cable management).
- Basic understanding of low-voltage systems, with a strong focus on safety and adherence to applicable codes and regulations.
- Proficiency with common hand tools and test equipment used in cabling installation and maintenance (e.g., cable testers, punch-down tools, crimpers, drills).
- Previous experience as a cable, telecom, low-voltage, or network technician is an asset.
- Ability to read and follow drawings, floor plans, and technical instructions.
- Comfort working on ladders, in ceilings, and in other physically demanding environments; ability to lift and carry moderate loads.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable transportation to various client sites in the Greater Toronto Area and flexibility to work varying part-time hours as needed.
