About the Role
Blue Man Group, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, is seeking a skilled and adaptable Assistant Carpenter for the 2026 North American Touring production.
The Assistant Carpenter supports the Head of Carpentry in all scenic, rigging, and deck operations, ensuring the safe and efficient setup, maintenance, and execution of the show. This position also serves as a technical swing, cross-trained to assist other departments—including Lighting, Video, Props and Wardrobe —providing coverage when needed. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in dynamic, collaborative, and hands-on touring environments.
Key Responsibilities
Show Operations and Technical Support
- Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of all scenic, stage, and automation elements under the direction of the Head of Carpentry.
- Run assigned show tracks during performances, including onstage and backstage cues.
- Serve as a technical swing, cross-trained to provide coverage and support for Lighting, Video, Props and Wardrobe and other departments as required.
- Maintain and check all scenic and automation equipment to ensure it is fit for purpose and safe to operate.
- Execute daily maintenance, repairs, and replenishment of scenic consumables and hardware.
- Support the setup and operation of truss, soft goods, platforms, and flown elements.
- Troubleshoot and report technical issues promptly to the Head of Carpentry.
Load-In, Load-Out, and Touring Operations
- Participate in all scenic and automation load-in and load-out activities.
- Assist with truck loading, packing, and unpacking to ensure efficient and secure transport of scenic and automation equipment.
- Lend assistance to other departments during load-in and load-out as directed.
- Adapt to varying venue configurations while maintaining the show’s technical integrity and creative standards.
Maintenance and Fabrication
- Support the maintenance and repair of scenic structures, rigging, and automation components.
- Assist with construction, painting, and general fabrication tasks as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and materials are properly secured for transport.
- Help maintain inventory of scenic materials, hardware, and consumables.
Safety and Collaboration
- Adhere to all Blue Man Group and CDSEG health and safety policies, always ensuring safe working practices.
- Follow proper procedures for lifting, climbing, and working at heights.
- Ensure all scenic and automation operations comply with venue safety regulations.
- Promote a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of performers, crew, and local staff.
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure efficient, safe, and seamless performances.

Qualifications

- Hands-on experience with power tools, hand tools, and stage hardware.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings and cue sheets.
- Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in physically demanding environments.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. safely and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Touring experience preferred.
- Must be able to travel domestically for extended periods (April 2026–Jun 2026) and maintain eligibility for U.S. employment and travel.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt touring contract offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits during active tour periods.
