Job Description
Penguin Random House is seeking a Production Manager to oversee the production and manufacturing of hardcover and softcover books, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence. The role requires extensive experience with one-color and four-color printing and understanding of offset and digital printing. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational skills, has excellent attention to detail, and can effectively multi-task and creatively solve problems to meet strict deadlines.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Consult with publishing groups to develop specifications and schedules.
- Manage purchase orders and costs.
- Oversee prepress and manufacturing processes including color correction and file preflighting.
- Maintain book specifications in SAP and FileMaker Pro.
- Create manufacturing estimates.
- Examine book and component files and samples to uphold quality standards.
- Coordinate closely with compositors, printers, binderies, and conversion vendors to troubleshoot file issues, negotiate timelines, and maintain schedules.
- Collaborate with Interior Design, Art, and Managing Editorial departments to complete titles.

- Effective communication and ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment are also necessary
The salary for this position is $73,500.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
