Job Title: Corporate Tax Lead
Full-time Permanent Opportunity | Hybrid in Vancouver, BC | $119,000 – $147,000 per year | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa
A leading Canadian resource enterprise is seeking a Corporate Tax Lead to join its high-performing tax function. This role is ideal for candidates coming from Big 4 public accounting firms or similar large, complex environments, looking to transition into an industry leadership position.
Reporting to senior tax leadership, the Corporate Tax Lead will play a key role in corporate tax compliance, tax provision, audit management, and tax strategy execution. You will be responsible for managing tax reporting for principal Canadian entities while identifying opportunities to optimize tax outcomes and ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
This position offers exposure to a large, publicly traded environment, with complex tax structures, cross-functional collaboration, and opportunities to influence tax strategy and financial reporting.
Responsibilities
Corporate Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Lead the preparation, review, and filing of corporate tax, mining tax, and information returns, including special tax elections
- Ensure timely submission of tax payments and installments while optimizing tax positions through available deductions and incentives
- Manage tax reporting requirements across multiple business units and corporate functions
Tax Provision & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review quarterly current and deferred tax provisions at the legal entity level
- Support consolidated tax provision reporting for financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- Reconcile tax-related balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy and completeness
- Develop and enhance tax provision and forecasting models, with a focus on automation and efficiency
Tax Planning & Advisory
- Identify tax planning opportunities and provide recommendations to improve overall tax outcomes
- Conduct technical tax research and provide guidance on complex tax matters
- Provide advisory support across areas such as indirect tax, SR&ED, transfer pricing, global mobility, and employee benefits
Audit & Risk Management
- Lead all aspects of government tax audits, reassessments, and objections
- Manage relationships with tax authorities and external advisors
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements, assessing impacts on the organization
Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with finance, accounting, and operational teams to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting inputs
- Supervise and review work of junior tax staff as required
- Support special projects, analysis, and strategic initiatives within the tax function
Qualifications
Experience
- 5+ years of corporate tax experience, ideally within a Big 4 public accounting firm or large multinational environment
- Strong experience in tax compliance and tax provision (IFRS)
- Experience working with large, publicly traded organizations is highly preferred
Education & Certifications
- CPA designation required
- Completion of CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course (Level III) or equivalent
- Advanced knowledge of Canadian corporate tax legislation and reporting requirements
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level)
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, D365, or JD Edwards
- Familiarity with consolidation tools such as OneStream or HFM
- Experience with data analytics or visualization tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, or Tableau is an asset
- Experience with tax preparation software and research tools
