Job Title: Manager, Messaging, Collaboration & Desktop Technologies

Full-time Opportunity | 3 days/week in Richmond, BC | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa

Salary: $127,804 – $155,281 annually

Our client is a large, mission-driven public organization serving workers and employers across British Columbia. The Technology division plays a strategic role in enabling secure, modern, and reliable digital services across the enterprise.

They are seeking an experienced Manager, Messaging, Collaboration & Desktop Technologies to lead the strategy and delivery of enterprise messaging, voice, collaboration, and desktop platforms, including virtual desktop infrastructure and cloud/hybrid device management frameworks. This role oversees a high-performing technical team and drives modernization initiatives that enhance security, productivity, and user experience across the organization.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Technology Leadership

  • Develop and maintain a long-term strategy for messaging, collaboration, voice, and virtual desktop technologies aligned with enterprise objectives.
  • Participate in strategic and tactical IT planning, recommending direction for new and advanced infrastructure technologies.
  • Develop and implement enterprise design frameworks and standards for messaging, collaboration, voice, and desktop environments.
  • Lead modernization initiatives for cloud and hybrid device management, including systems management, patching, updates, and endpoint management frameworks.
  • Stay current on advancements in AI, cloud computing, collaboration platforms, and emerging service delivery models.

Project & Portfolio Management

  • Initiate and manage projects to research and evaluate new collaboration and virtual desktop tools.
  • Develop business cases, implementation plans, and technology selection recommendations.
  • Ensure projects are assigned, scheduled, and delivered according to approved plans.
  • Manage vendor relationships and secure contract resources as needed.

Operational Excellence & Security

  • Implement proactive solutions to maximize technology investments and service reliability.
  • Work cross-functionally to strengthen information systems security and optimize enterprise processes.
  • Ensure administrative and technical resources are in place to support staff productivity.

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a technical team responsible for messaging, collaboration, and desktop services.
  • Hire, coach, evaluate, and develop team members; set performance goals and provide regular feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative team culture that promotes accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support staff through organizational change and new technology initiatives.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Plan and manage the departmental operating budget effectively.
  • Monitor financial performance, investigate variances, and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate safety, health, and security policies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in messaging, collaboration, desktop, or virtual desktop infrastructure technologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and complex enterprise initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of collaboration platforms, endpoint/device management frameworks, and enterprise desktop environments.
  • Experience working within large, complex organizations with diverse technology needs.

Preferred

  • Experience leading modernization initiatives in hybrid or cloud-first environments.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled collaboration tools and enterprise productivity ecosystems.
  • Experience in unionized or highly regulated environments is considered an asset.
