About the Role
Beaver Electrical Machinery Ltd. is looking for a motivated Field Service Technician to provide expert on-site support, maintenance, and repair for critical industrial infrastructure including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, motors, generators and more. This is a full-time, unionized position under the IBEW Local 213 Winders Agreement, and demands a 37.5-hour work week with expected overtime.
You will work with equipment ranging from 600V to 69kV and higher, performing everything from routine maintenance to complex troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Repair: Service transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, and industrial motors & generators.
- Diagnostic Testing: Utilize advanced test equipment including Megger, TTR, Doble, PdMA and VLF Hi-Pot.
- Troubleshooting: Analyze electrical systems, interpret complex schematics, and resolve system issues effectively.
- Documentation: Generate detailed service reports and document all on-site activities using Microsoft Office and Google products.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Certification: Must be a Journeyperson Electrician with a recognized Canadian certificate. FSR-A certification is highly valued.
- Experience: Proven track record working with industrial high and low-voltage power equipment. Experience with motor or generator service & testing is highly valued.
- Technical Communication: Must possess the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts in English, both verbally and in writing, to ensure workplace safety and operational clarity.
- Driving: Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
- Assets: Experience with VFDs, PLCs, and soft starts; familiarity with CEC, NETA, or NEMA standards; and experience with motor winding/repair. Valid first aid training is an asset.
Compensation & Union Benefits:
- Hourly Wage: $60.81/hour with annual negotiated increases.
- Standard Hours: 7.5-hour workday (Mon–Fri), typically 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
- Overtime: 200% (Double Time) for all overtime hours.
- Vacation Pay: Scaled based on service length: 0–2 Years: 6% (3 weeks), 3–9 Years: 9.5% (5 weeks), 10+ Years: 10% (5 weeks)
- Statutory Holidays: 13 paid days off per year.
- Health & Retirement: Comprehensive extended health and dental care, plus a Canadian Union Pension and RRSP plan.
- Safety Allowance: annual safety boot allowance and biennial prescription safety glass coverage.
