What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a professional who:
- Demonstrates technical proficiency in structural analysis, calculations, and design for a variety of project types, consistently delivering timely, accurate, cost-effective solutions.
- Has practical experience applying Part 4 of the National Building Code.
- Communicates effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders, providing clear updates on project scope, progress, and risks.
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships to support successful project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and quality by applying best practices, tools, and emerging technologies.
- Takes ownership of their professional development, staying current with industry standards, codes, and relevant certifications.
- Approaches challenges proactively, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn and adapt.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, including building design experience.
- Experience with project management and interface with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Current registration as a P.Eng. and ability to maintain membership with APEGA.
- Experience with structural design software (i.e., STAAD, IDEA StatiCa, WoodWorks, Tekla Tedds, S-Concrete) and an understanding of relevant codes (i.e., NBC, CSA A23, CSA A371, CSA S16 and CSA 086).
What You Can Expect to Be Doing:
- Budget, lead, and deliver the structural design and management of new building projects and renovations and retrofits of existing structures.
- Provide technical leadership and project oversight for small- to large-scale projects, managing coordination and execution while maintaining a high standard of client service.
- Assign, supervise, and review construction-phase activities, including mentoring and coordinating with technologists and junior engineers.
- Prepare structural plans and designs, perform computer-based analyses, and review drawings and calculations in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
- Review and interpret reports, drawings, blueprints, test results, and other technical documentation to support project planning and design decisions.
- Utilize computer-aided engineering and design software to produce design documentation, calculations, and analysis models.
- Conduct field reviews and structural site observations to verify construction compliance and performance.
- Review shop drawings, contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and other construction-related documentation.
- Manage project financial budgets and approve progress billing at regular intervals.
