Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Design Engineer – Telecom to join our dynamic engineering team specializing in railway and metro infrastructure projects. This role is critical in shaping the communication backbone of modern rail systems, ensuring seamless, reliable, and safe operations across complex transit networks. The Design Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and technical support of integrated telecom systems including Public Address (PA), IP-based networks, CCTV, Fiber Optic Transmission Systems (FOTS), Radio Communication (e.g., LTE-R, TETRA), and Network Management Systems (NMS). The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation in telecom infrastructure, with proven experience in railway-specific projects, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. You will play a pivotal role in delivering technically robust, compliant, and future-ready telecom solutions that support operational efficiency, passenger safety, and system interoperability in high-availability rail environments.

  • Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver comprehensive telecom system solutions tailored for railway and metro projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, client specifications, and industry standards.
  • Prepare detailed system designs for PA, IP networks, CCTV, FOTS, Radio Communication (e.g., LTE-R, TETRA), and NMS, including functional specifications, interface diagrams, and integration plans.
  • Develop technical drawings, layouts, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and detailed technical specifications for procurement, fabrication, and installation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Signaling, Rolling Stock, Civil, Power, and Control & Monitoring Systems to ensure seamless system integration and coordination.
  • Support on-site installation, testing, and commissioning activities, providing technical guidance and resolving design-related issues in real time.
  • Ensure all designs and deliverables comply with national and international standards (e.g., EN, IEC, IEEE, ISO, NFPA, and client-specific requirements).
  • Conduct system integration testing and assist in troubleshooting complex telecom issues during commissioning and post-commissioning phases.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, technical decisions, and system configurations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, client presentations, and technical bid evaluations as required.
  • Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in telecom system design and engineering, specifically within railway, metro, or heavy rail infrastructure projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of railway telecom systems: PA, IP networks, CCTV, FOTS, Radio Communication (LTE-R, TETRA), and NMS.
  • Proficiency in CAD/BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and technical drawing standards for system layouts and schematics.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, fiber optics, IP addressing, VLANs, QoS, and cybersecurity principles in rail environments.
  • Experience preparing BOMs, technical specifications, and interface control documents (ICDs).
  • Familiarity with project delivery lifecycle from concept through commissioning, including QA/QC and compliance management.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning and site support as needed.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards: EN 50121 (EMC), EN 50129 (Safety), IEC 61508, ISO 27001, and client-specific railway telecom standards.
