General Foreman – Electrical (Renewable Energy Construction)
Location: Saskatoon, SK
Role Overview
This is a hands-on, field-driven leadership role. The General Foreman is expected to be on-site daily, directing crews, coordinating subcontractors, and actively driving construction progress. The ideal candidate is a resourceful and solutions-oriented leader who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments. They can quickly assess complex on-site challenges – whether scheduling conflicts, material shortages, or other unforeseen site conditions – and implement practical, cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or quality.
This position combines senior field leadership with practical execution – strong critical thinking and sound judgement are essential. You will lead from the front, managing site operations in real time while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
You are accountable for translating project plans into executed work in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Execution
- Lead day-to-day construction activities on site, directing crews, subcontractors, and trades
- Actively manage work sequencing, resolve field issues, and maintain construction momentum
- Serve as the primary field authority for execution decisions
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and subcontractors
- Ensure alignment between design intent and field execution
- Provide clear, concise updates on site progress, risks, and constraints
Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain short-term and lookahead schedules
- Adjust plans in real time, based on site conditions, manpower, and material availability
Cost & Productivity Control
- Monitor labor productivity and resource utilization
- Support cost control efforts by minimizing rework and inefficiencies
- Track field progress against budget and schedule targets
Safety & Quality
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental standards through active leadership
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and codes
- Promote a disciplined safety culture
Documentation & Contracts
- Support management of field documentation, RFIs, and change orders
- Assist in interpreting contracts and ensuring scope adherence on site
- Support construction cost estimating
Team Leadership
- Supervise, mentor, and develop crew members and foremen
- Foster accountability, ownership, and strong work ethic across the site team
Role Profile
- High field presence; this is not a desk-based role
- Strong command of construction sequencing, electrical systems, and site logistics
- Able to move seamlessly between planning and hands-on problem-solving
- Comfortable making decisions in dynamic, active construction environments
Compensation
- $55–$70/hour, based on experience
- Overtime at 1.5x
- LOA provided for remote projects (outside Saskatoon)
Required Qualifications
- Red Seal Electrician (required)
- Valid First Aid certification
- Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership (LSE or equivalent)
- Strong hands-on experience in electrical or renewable energy construction
- Proven ability to lead crews and manage active job sites
- Solid understanding of electrical systems, construction sequencing, and site logistics
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- Proficiency with scheduling tools and standard software
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
- Ability to pass criminal record check and Drug and alcohol (D&A) testing as required
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Primarily field-based role aligned with construction schedules
- Local projects: typically 5 days/week, 8 hours/day
- Remote projects: ~11-hour days, rotations up to 12 consecutive days
- Willingness to travel and work in remote environments required
