Job Summary
Atchayam Trust is seeking a compassionate and committed Mental Health Counselor to support residents in our shelters. The role focuses on counseling individuals rescued from street situations and guiding them through a structured rehabilitation process toward stability, dignity, and independent living.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to shelter residents
- Support emotional stabilization, behavioral change, and mental well-being
- Identify risks of relapse and actively work to prevent return to street living
- Motivate and encourage residents to participate in livelihood and skill-building activities
- Work closely with social workers to develop and implement individual rehabilitation plans
- Facilitate reintegration into families or independent living wherever possible
- Maintain counseling records, case notes, and progress reports
- Coordinate with healthcare staff for holistic care
Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s Degree in Psychology / Counseling / Social Work (MSW preferred)
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in counseling, preferably in NGOs, shelters, or community settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with vulnerable populations including homeless, destitute, or mentally distressed individuals
- Fluency in Tamil (mandatory); basic English preferred
