Job description

AssetWatch serves global manufacturers by powering manufacturing uptime through the delivery of an unparalleled condition monitoring experience, with a passion to care about the assets our customers care for every day. We are a devoted and capable team that includes world-renowned engineers and distinguished business leaders united by a common goal – To build the future of predictive maintenance. As we enter the next phase of rapid growth, we are seeking people to help lead the journey.

What's the Opportunity

AssetWatch is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to establish and lead the company's tax and compliance function as we continue to scale globally. This is a newly created role, built to own tax and compliance as a dedicated internal capability that was previously managed alongside other accounting responsibilities.

The company currently operates in the United States and Canada, is actively expanding its presence in Mexico, and is preparing for future growth in the United Kingdom and European markets. This role will serve as the primary internal owner of tax and compliance activities, partnering closely with Accounting leadership and external advisors to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and support international growth.

Reporting directly to the VP, Accounting, this is an individual contributor role with access to accounting team support for administrative tasks; team expansion will be evaluated as the function matures and the company continues to grow. You'll work closely with established external advisors, including BDO and other international tax and legal partners, so you won't be expected to be a solo expert across every jurisdiction. The focus is on effective coordination, oversight, and internal ownership of compliance activities. The ideal candidate combines strong tax and compliance knowledge with operational execution skills, business partnership capabilities, and experience supporting multi-jurisdiction organizations.

This role is located in the United States.

Tax Compliance & Governance

  • Own and oversee U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance activities.
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance, registrations, filings, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee tax compliance activities for the company's Canadian subsidiary in coordination with external advisors.
  • Manage indirect tax compliance, including VAT, GST, HST, PST, and similar international tax obligations.
  • Coordinate tax provision support and annual tax filings with external tax firms.
  • Monitor nexus exposure and compliance obligations across all jurisdictions.
  • Manage tax notices, audits, inquiries, and regulatory examinations.
  • Develop and maintain tax compliance calendars and governance processes.

International Expansion Support

  • Partner with Accounting leadership to support the company's international expansion strategy.
  • Coordinate with external advisors, including BDO and other international tax and legal partners, on country-specific tax, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Support entity formation, registrations, licensing, and ongoing compliance requirements in new jurisdictions.
  • Lead compliance activities related to Mexico, including import/export matters, customs considerations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Help establish the tax and compliance framework for future UK and European operations.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain tax and compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify and assess tax and regulatory risks associated with domestic and international operations.
  • Recommend mitigation strategies and process improvements.
  • Support external audits and internal control initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation supporting tax positions, registrations, and compliance requirements.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives related to tax and compliance activities.
  • Manage and optimize Taxware as the company's sales tax calculation engine and filing platform.
  • Partner with Accounting, Revenue Operations, and Finance teams to improve data quality and reporting accuracy.
  • Optimize tax-related processes within NetSuite and supporting systems.
  • Establish reporting, monitoring, and dashboard capabilities to improve visibility into compliance activities and risks.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the primary internal resource for tax and compliance matters.
  • Partner with Accounting, Revenue Operations, Legal, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and business leadership.
  • Evaluate tax and compliance implications of new business initiatives, customer arrangements, vendor relationships, and international expansion activities.
  • Provide recommendations and insights to senior leadership regarding tax and compliance matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
  • 7 to 10+ years of progressive tax and compliance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting multi-state and multi-jurisdiction organizations.
  • Experience managing relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience coordinating tax compliance activities across multiple legal entities or jurisdictions.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate independently and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, MST, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience supporting Canadian operations and tax compliance.
  • Experience supporting international expansion initiatives.
  • Knowledge of VAT, GST/HST, customs, import/export, and other cross-border compliance requirements.
  • Experience in SaaS, industrial technology, manufacturing, or other high-growth environments.
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP and Taxware.
  • Experience building scalable processes and controls within a growing organization.

Success Measures

During the first 12 months, this role will:

  • Establish clear ownership and visibility across all domestic and international tax compliance activities.
  • Successfully support ongoing Mexico expansion initiatives and related compliance requirements.
  • Build a scalable tax and compliance framework to support future UK and European market entry.
  • Strengthen compliance governance and reduce regulatory risk across jurisdictions.
  • Improve tax reporting accuracy, documentation, and process efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between AssetWatch and external tax advisors globally.
  • Create scalable processes and controls that support the company's continued expansion.
