About the Role

We are seeking a Contract Data Scientist to support the development and maintenance of deep learning models for medical document analysis. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity , and candidates must be eligible for permanent hire without visa sponsorship if required.

In this role, you will work closely with a technical lead to ensure model quality and deliverables, while operating independently in day-to-day execution. You'll contribute to cutting-edge projects that leverage large-scale text datasets and advanced machine learning techniques in an AWS-based environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Train, fine-tune, and evaluate deep learning models (transformers and related architectures).
• Process, merge, and analyze large-scale text datasets.
• Troubleshoot model behavior, parameters, and training pipelines.
• Run experiments and document results.
• Deploy models into AWS using established tools and workflows.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong Python skills, especially with PyTorch and Transformers .
• Hands-on experience training and debugging deep learning models for text.
• Solid grounding in statistics , exploratory data analysis (EDA) , and machine learning concepts.
• Ability to work in AWS and use GitHub-based workflows .
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with LLMs , prompt-based methods, or agentic AI.
• Familiarity with PySpark or large-scale ETL for textual data.
• Experience with experiment tracking and MLOps tools .
• Background in healthcare or medical text (nice to have, not required).

Additional Technical Expertise:

• Programming: Strong Python development; scripting with Python and Bash.
• Libraries & Frameworks: PyTorch, Transformer networks.
• Machine Learning: Neural networks, classification problems, EDA, hypothesis testing, data transformation, data modeling.
• Statistics: Applied statistics and analytical methods for model evaluation and interpretation.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Working with GPUs in cloud environments; AWS expertise.
• Version Control: Git, GitHub workflow.
• Large-scale Data Processing: AWS Glue, ETL pipelines.
• Predictive Modeling: Building models to predict medical codes based on patient visit data and historical patient records.
• Data Interpretation: Ability to take outputs from statistical analyses and derive actionable insights.

Experience Level:

• 2-5 years of experience OR Master's in Computer Science

Nice-to-Have:

• Healthcare background.
• Experience with clinical text (not speech) for medical claims reimbursement.
