We are looking for a compassionate, perceptive, and professionally trained School Counsellor who genuinely believes in the holistic development of every child. Job responsibilites:
Student Well-being & Mental Health
- Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students of Classes 5 to 12, addressing emotional, social, behavioural and academic concerns.
- Identify students in need of support through observation, teacher referrals and self-referrals, and respond with appropriate, timely interventions.
- Create a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space where students feel heard, valued and supported.
- Develop and implement structured programmes focused on emotional intelligence, stress management, resilience and mental wellness.
- Address issues common to residential school students such as homesickness, peer conflicts, identity, self-esteem and anxiety.
Academic & Career Guidance
- Guide students in understanding their academic strengths, interests and learning styles to help them make informed subject and stream choices.
- Support students in Class 10 and 12 with board exam stress management and time management strategies.
- Provide career counselling and assist students in exploring higher education options, entrance exams and future pathways.
- Coordinate with teachers to support students with learning difficulties or underperformance.
Parent & Teacher Collaboration
- Liaise regularly with parents to discuss student progress, emotional well-being and behavioural patterns.
- Collaborate with class teachers, housemasters and subject teachers to ensure a consistent and supportive environment for each student.
- Conduct periodic workshops and sensitisation sessions for teachers on identifying student distress and adopting a trauma-informed approach in the classroom.
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings and provide professional inputs on student development.
Preventive & Developmental Programmes
- Design and deliver age-appropriate life skills programmes covering topics such as communication skills, conflict resolution, peer relationships, gender sensitivity and digital well-being.
- Organise awareness programmes around adolescent health, substance prevention, anti-bullying and cyber safety.
- Plan and execute orientation programmes for newly enrolled students to ease their transition into residential life.
Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of counselling sessions, interventions and referrals.
- Prepare periodic reports on student well-being trends and counselling activities for the school leadership.
- Coordinate with external mental health professionals or psychiatrists when cases require specialist referral.
- Contribute actively to the school's pastoral care framework and residential life programmes.
- Participate in school events, camps, retreats and extracurricular activities as a mentor and guide.
Qualifications
- Post-graduate degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Applied Psychology or a related field.
- Recognized certification or diploma in Counselling / Guidance and Counselling (RCI registered or equivalent preferred).
- B.Ed. will be an added advantage.
Desired Work Exprience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in school counselling, preferably in a residential or boarding school setting.
- Demonstrated experience in working with adolescents across a wide age group (Classes 5 to 12).
- Prior experience in conducting group workshops, life skills programmes and parent engagement sessions is highly desirable.
