The Sand Table team manages the complex logistics for delivering flawless augmented reality demonstrations in headset to critical stakeholders. As a cross-functional group of builders, strategists, and operators, we combine the creative energy of a top game studio with the rigorous discipline of national security to shape how the future of defense is visualized and understood.</p> <p><strong>ABOUT THE ROLE</strong></p> <p>As the Carbon Extensibility Engineer, you will be the expert practitioner of our internal extensibility framework. You will spearhead the development of the primary Sand Table plugin, effectively building a powerful "modding" capability for our mission-critical simulation software.</p> <h4>WHAT YOU'LL DO</h4> <ul> <li>Architect and develop the core Sand Table plugin using our Carbon extensibility framework, leveraging your expertise in both low-level C++ and high-level TypeScript</li> <li>Partner closely with artists, designers, and systems engineers to extend Sand Table's capabilities, integrating new data sources, user interactions, and visual features</li> <li>Become the subject matter expert on the Carbon extensibility layer, providing guidance and creating robust APIs that empower other teams to build upon your work</li> <li>Dive deep into the engine's C++ foundation to understand its architecture, identify extension points, and ensure your plugin code is performant and stable</li> <li>Write clean, high-performance, and maintainable code that seamlessly blends the power of a real-time engine with the flexibility of a modern scripting environment</li> <li>Diagnose and solve complex technical challenges at the intersection of the core engine, scripting layer, and artistic workflows</li> </ul> <h4><br><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Professional experience in game engine development or a related field involving real-time 3D simulation</li> <li>Strong proficiency in C++ and experience working in large, performance-critical codebases</li> <li>Solid experience with TypeScript for scripting, tooling, or application development</li> <li>A proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including artists and engineers from other disciplines</li> <li>Ability to write clean, maintainable, and extensible code with an eye for creating robust APIs</li> <li>Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on ambiguous, open-ended technical tasks</li> <li>Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance</li> </ul> <h4><br><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Direct experience creating or working with <strong>modding communities and toolkits</strong> for games</li> <li>Experience with API design and SDK development</li> <li>Familiarity with 3D math and real-time rendering concepts</li> <li>Experience shipping a AAA game title</li> </ul><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="title">US Salary Range</div><div class="pay-range"><span>$191,000</span><span class="divider">&mdash;</span><span>$253,000 USD</span></div></div></div><div class="content-conclusion"><p><span data-contrast="auto">The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only.
