Job Description
Position Title: General Maintenance/Animal Care
Department: Maintenance
Division: Amish Farm and House
Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager
Function Statement:
Provide general maintenance services across a wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to, landscaping, general upkeep, repairs, vehicle maintenance, snow removal, animal care and special projects. Provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing farm environment for our guests.
Position Responsibilities:
- Empty trash cans as needed and collect trash around property
- Assist with landscaping including mowing, mulching, and pulling weeds
- Assist in snow removal operations, often on short notice
- Feed and provide general care for farm animals, including large animals (cows, horses)
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance (checking fluids, changing bulbs, etc.)
- Maintain farm buildings to standard determined by General Manager
- Proactively troubleshoot potential issues and report concerns to supervisor
- Follow all directions given by Supervisor
- Complete special projects as directed
Education, Training, and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required (exceptions may be given to current H.S. students)
- Training is provided on the job.
- Proficiency with farm equipment, driving with trailers, and animal care experience preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work outdoors, regardless of weather conditions, for up to 90% of shift
- Ability to be physically active, including moving on uneven terrain for up to 90% of shift
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, grasp, kneel, sit, stand, climb stairs and ladders
Job Requirements:
- Willing to learn proper vehicle and farm equipment operation
- Good communication skills: listening, oral, and written
- Must be flexible in job tasks/ability to change direction quickly
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills
- Good observation skills
- Must be able to follow oral and written directions
- Must be able to work some weekends and holidays
- Ability to interact with others in a respectful and positive manner
