Job Overview:
The Human Resource Manager of Alexandria Pest Services, Inc. (APS) is responsible for overseeing and executing all human resource functions to support the company’s operational success. This position ensures APS attracts, retains, and supports top talent while maintaining full compliance with employment laws and fostering a positive work environment.
Objectives:
The HR Manager will:
- Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts
- Maintain accurate and compliant employee records
- Oversee employee performance management and benefits administration
- Provide coaching and HR support to managers and staff
- Ensure APS complies with HR regulations and maintains a productive and motivated workforce
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Hiring
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment: posting jobs, screening resumes, conducting interviews
- Coordinate with department heads to identify staffing needs
- Stay current on HR best practices to attract high-quality candidates
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Facilitate onboarding of new hires and offboarding of departing employees
- Issue uniforms and equipment and ensure proper tracking/updating
- Maintain employee onboarding and exit checklists
- Process employee status changes and terminations
Employee Records & Compliance
- Maintain organized employee files, benefits records, and personnel documents
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Develop and maintain effective filing and retrieval systems
Benefits Administration
- Manage APS health, dental, and life insurance programs
- Communicate benefit changes to staff and coordinate with agents/providers
- Administer 401(k) program: employee communication, coordination with provider, reporting
- Maintain employee leave calendar and track PTO
Health, Safety, & Incident Reporting
- Manage and document incident reports, worker’s comp and auto claims
- Complete and submit OSHA 300 logs as required
Training & Licensing
- Coordinate required training for employees, especially for technician licensing
- Ensure company and individual technician licenses are current
- Submit renewal applications on time
Policy & Handbook Management
- Develop, maintain, and update APS Employee Handbook
- Communicate updates and ensure understanding among staff
- Advise managers and employees on HR policies and procedures
Annual Reporting
- Complete and submit annual reports (DC, VA, MD DBE/MBE, Vets4212, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with federal and state reporting requirements
Employee Engagement & Support
- Coordinate employee events, recognition programs, birthdays, and anniversaries
- Provide HR coaching and support to employees and management
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR-related questions
Additional Duties
- Conduct special projects as assigned
- Analyze new laws and HR trends to recommend internal adjustments
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of HR laws, policies, and best practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Superior organizational, time management, and analytical skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Comfortable advising management and coaching employees
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; HR software knowledge a plus
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in HR or related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of human resources experience, preferably in a small business environment
Work Environment
- Office-based, working on a computer in a climate-controlled environment
- Occasional high-pressure situations or urgent deadlines
- Regular office hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Collaborative team environment with cross-department communication
