AiM Land & Environmental Services has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Environmental Scientist/Biologist to join our team. As our team continues to grow, we’re looking to hire detail-oriented people who are strong in problem-solving, informed decision making, and value continuous learning and professional growth.

AiM Land & Environmental Services is an expanding progressive surface land and environmental consulting firm with an interest in oil and gas, forestry, mining, energy, and agricultural industries, as well as municipal authorities throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Canada’s north. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a recognized Post Secondary institution or college in the field of Environmental Sciences
  • 5+ years of relevant environmental and environmental consulting experience in BC or AB
  • Accredited through the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (PBiol), BC College of Applied Biologists (RPBio), Alberta or BC Institutes of Agrologists (PAg/RTAg), or Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or eligible to apply
  • Alberta Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES) and/or Wetland Specialist, a plus
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office
  • Current Safety Tickets, a plus
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver abstract

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Possess a strong biophysical skill set with the ability to identify and classify waterbodies, wildlife, soils and vegetation.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Effective project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, scope management, and client service.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities, with the capacity to guide and support junior team members.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, regulators, contractors, and project teams.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and commitment to health, safety, and environmental stewardship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct environmental assessments in the field including wildlife, vegetation, and wetland assessments, pre- and post-construction site assessments, construction monitoring/inspection reports, and watercourse/water body classification.
  • Work in remote, forested areas with a team of people.
  • Undertakes assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home office.
  • Posses strong aquatic and fish habitat assessment skills
  • Reviews and directs contractors in the installation of stream crossing structures, water quality and fish salvage, soil stripping, and sediment and erosion control activities.
  • Works with management and construction teams to confirm compliance with environmental best practices, commitments, permits, laws and regulations and develop recommendations to resolve non-conformances.
  • Prepares and reviews technical reports such as wildlife, vegetation, and wetland assessments, pre- and post-construction site assessments, construction monitoring/inspection reports, and watercourse/water body classification and data acquisition.
  • Prepares and implements wildlife management plans, Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), and erosion and sediment control plans.
  • Maintains regular contact with external clients to support quality service delivery, with work reviewed by senior staff for consistency and alignment with project objectives.
  • Major focus is leadership of technical quality and project management for small to larger, more complex projects.
  • Provides technical direction and supervises quality and quantity of work to junior and other intermediate staff.
  • Delegates effectively; understands the assignment; strong communication to team; sets clear expectations; checks-in; identifies parameters/constraints to achieve tasks.
  • Builds and maintains positive client relationship focused on providing top-quality service in regulatory expertise.
  • Consults with environmental regulatory bodies, and interacts with regulators on behalf of clients, as needed.
  • Displays a ‘safety first’ focus; sets a positive example by identifying and reporting hazards, near misses and incidents; seeks resolution to the issues identified; provides HSE support to junior staff; and leads the hazard assessment process on their projects.
