General Superintendent — Large Sports Construction (Stadiums & Arenas)
About the Role – AECOM Hunt is now hiring General Superintendents to lead field execution for large, complex sports venues—new-build and major renovations of stadiums, arenas, and training facilities. You will orchestrate multi‑prime trade delivery across structural, enclosure, MEP/FP, technology, and specialty sports systems to achieve safety, quality, and schedule certainty. You will serve as the senior field leader, mentoring superintendents and foremen, coordinating with project management, designers, and the owner to deliver event‑ready facilities.
Job description:
- Set the field execution strategy, site logistics plan, and operating rhythm for highly complex venue construction.
- Lead a team of qualified staff of superintendents, general foremen, and field engineers; drive accountability and performance.
- Champion a zero‑incident culture.
- Implement construction plans/measures in active venues and urban settings; coordinate emergency and severe‑weather plans.
- Manage field operations strategies regarding MEP, structural, roofing, façade, etc., inclusive of night/weekend work windows, deliveries, laydown, and just‑in‑time sequencing.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS Engineering/Construction Management and 12 years of demonstrated Superintendent experience or AA/AS and 14 years of relevant experience or HSD/GED and 16 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education AND 4 years of demonstrated leadership experience.
- Valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful experience in the construction of large public‑assembly or sports venues.
- Proven experience delivering at least one major sports venue (e.g., ≥15,000‑seat arena or ≥25,000‑seat stadium) or comparable complex venue.
- Expert understanding of long‑span steel/precast stadia, complex MEP/FP, life‑safety/egress, bowl geometry/tolerances, and envelope waterproofing.
- Mastery of field planning and production control (look‑ahead, takt/lean methods), crane planning, and heavy logistics in constrained sites.
- Proficiency with digital field tools (e.g., Procore or similar), model/drawing review, and CPM alignment (e.g., P6).
- Strong communication and team leadership skills; decisive problem solver under schedule pressure.
- OSHA 30.
- Delivery experience with retractable roofs, large video boards/AV, broadcast suites, premium/hospitality fit‑outs, and foodservice programs.
- Experience executing work in active venues with tight event windows and public interfaces.
- Experience on union and open‑shop projects and with large self‑perform or multiple prime trade packages.
Physical Demands:
- The following physical demands represent those typically required of individuals working in construction field roles, with or without accommodation. Construction field positions require physical stamina and mobility, including the ability to climb ladders and stairs, use personnel hoists, and move through various terrain and active construction zones. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Team members must be capable of using their hands to handle tools and materials, and perform activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted may be necessary on an occasional basis.
Work Environment:
- Individuals in construction field roles work primarily on active job sites where exposure to environmental and job-related hazards is common, with or without accommodation. These environments may include proximity to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, and potential electrical risks. Noise levels may vary from moderate to high depending on the phase of construction. Employees may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and must remain alert to ensure safety. Additional duties may be assigned as needed based on the scope and progress of the project.
