Job description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented Senior Signal Engineer to join our World Class Rail Team in our New York Metro Region. In this position the ideal candidate shall have experience in the design and implementation of the following train control systems to include: Automatic Train Control (ATC), Positive Train Control (PTC), Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Operation (ATO), Solid State Interlocking (SSI), Cab Signaling, Digital Tack Circuit Systems and conventional block signaling systems.


Daily duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop and review design plans and technical specifications.
  • Coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings.
  • Review shop drawings, record changes and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as required.
  • Prepare construction estimates and engineering budgets.
  • Supports the installation, testing, and commissioning of rail based signaling, Automatic Train Control (ATC), Positive Train Control (PTC), and Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) projects.
  • Participates in all stages of a signaling project from planning and design to installation and commissioning.
  • Develops detailed signal designs and systems, including at grade railroad crossing systems for both constant and fixed warning systems and traffic preemption functions.
  • Developing Control Lines and Route and Aspect Charts.
  • Performs Vital and non-vital processor programming.
  • Performs feasibility studies and analysis, including braking calculations, control tables, routes and aspects, schematics, and phasing plans.
  • Supports key stages of the installation, testing and commissioning of rail based signaling, Automatic Train Control (ATC), Positive Train Control (PTC), and Communications Based Train Control (CBTC projects).

Minimum Requirements.

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering or related field plus four years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineering license (NY, NJ, PA) or an ability to receive within 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering license (NY, NJ, PA).
  • Experience of design, construction, testing and commissioning of Train Control Systems and Equipment with an Engineering Firm, Transit Authority or Signaling Equipment Manufacture.
  • Experience with train control systems for one or more of the following: commuter rail, subway, freight, light rail systems and streetcar systems.
  • Experience managing/lead designer for signal projects from conceptual design thru to final commissioning.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation is not available now or in the future.
