Job Description
The Technical Writer will develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly maintenance and overhaul documentation for advanced aircraft engine products. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to gather technical information, translate complex concepts into accessible content, and ensure all documentation complies with regulatory, safety, and internal standards. The position also involves creating technical illustrations and diagrams, conducting usability testing with end users, and managing multiple documentation projects while maintaining high quality and precision.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather detailed technical information and specifications for engine maintenance and overhaul manuals.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation tailored to various audiences, including technicians and engineers.
- Create and integrate technical illustrations, diagrams, and schematics to enhance understanding of maintenance and overhaul procedures.
- Ensure all documentation meets applicable regulatory requirements, internal company guidelines, and safety standards.
- Conduct usability testing of manuals and other documentation, collect feedback from end users, and incorporate improvements to enhance clarity and effectiveness.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and completeness across all technical publications.
- Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet established deadlines.
- Work closely with product lifecycle management and technical publications teams to align documentation with current product definitions and configurations.
- Apply standards such as S1000D or ATA 200 to structure and organize technical content where applicable.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in an engineering, aerospace, or similarly complex technical environment.
- Proficiency in technical writing best practices, including information structuring, style consistency, and audience-focused communication.
- Experience working with S1000D for publications or technical writing, or familiarity with ATA 200 standards.
- Ability to translate complex technical and engineering concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, quality, and compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional engineering and product teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with XML for structuring and managing technical content.
- Familiarity with CATIA or similar CAD tools to interpret technical drawings and product models for documentation and illustrations.
- Experience creating or working with technical illustrations, diagrams, and schematics.
- Background or education in a technical field such as engineering, aviation, or a related discipline is an asset.
- Experience supporting technical publications within a product lifecycle management (PLM) environment is an advantage.
Work Environment
This role reports into the Product Lifecycle Management organization, supporting technical publications for engine product definition within a large turbofan engine program. The position is 100% on-site and operates on a day shift with flexible hours, with core hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will work closely with PLM and technical publication teams in a collaborative, engineering-focused environment that supports the design, maintenance, and overhaul of advanced aircraft engines. The setting emphasizes safety, precision, and continuous improvement, with access to modern engineering and documentation tools. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
