Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist / Senior Data Analyst Epidemiology experience to support the design, implementation, and go-live readiness of a large-scale Disease Surveillance System for a public health client. This role will play a critical function in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, reliability, and epidemiologic integrity of surveillance data prior to system deployment. The ideal candidate combines strong epidemiologic expertise with deep analytical rigor, experience validating complex health datasets, and the ability to work collaboratively with technology, data engineering, and public health stakeholders in a consulting delivery model.
Key Responsibilities:
Epidemiologic & Analytical Leadership:
- Design and validate surveillance indicators aligned with public health reporting standards.
- Apply epidemiologic methods to ensure proper case definitions, cohort construction, and disease classification logic.
- Develop statistical models and analytic approaches to support outbreak detection, trend analysis, and reporting.
- Ensure alignment with established surveillance frameworks (e.g., CDC reporting models, syndromic surveillance standards).
Data Quality & Go-Live Readiness:
- Lead data validation and quality assurance efforts in preparation for system go-live.
- Develop and execute data quality assessment plans, including:
- Completeness checks
- Timeliness metrics
- Data consistency validation
- Outlier detection
- Duplicate case identification
- Cross-system reconciliation
- Validate ETL outputs against source systems (EHRs, lab systems, case management platforms, claims data).
- Perform parallel runs and reconcile legacy vs. new system outputs.
- Define and monitor key data quality KPIs and thresholds for production readiness.
- Partner with data engineers to troubleshoot transformation logic and mapping discrepancies.
- Document validation methodologies and maintain audit-ready quality documentation.
Stakeholder & Consulting Responsibilities:
- Translate technical validation findings into clear risk statements and remediation plans for executive leadership.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and collaborate with public health program teams.
- Advise clients on data governance, surveillance standards, and quality monitoring post go-live.
- Contribute to system deployment readiness assessments and operational transition planning.
