Job Description
The Associate Director, Field Tools - US Specialty is responsible for establishing field tools strategy in partnership with brand APEX, sales, and marketing partners to enable the sales force to be more effective and efficient. This position will lead industry best practices and benchmarking for sales force technology solutions. This AD will lead their Field Tools team as effective cross functional liaisons between the commercial brand teams, Business Technology Solutions (BTS), Training, OEC, Legal, Med/Reg and APEX teams to oversee the design, deployment, training, communications, and management of the Field Tools.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Strategic Brand Management: Subject Matter Expert (SME) and central point of contact for US Specialty brands field tools. Create and maintain a wide and deep network of relationships across senior sales stakeholders to include VPs, GMs, Sales Directors, MAI, BTS and APEX. Ability to influence key stakeholders to gain approval on strategic initiatives. Extensive experience in understanding the underlying business needs, infusing a customer focused mindset, and translating to holistic field sales technology solutions ensuring the brand strategy is pulled through in field tools.
Cross Functional Leadership: Proactively partner with business partners to review, discuss, and prioritize system enhancement & business process improvement recommendations. Partners with Center of Excellence (CoE) and BTS to define long range strategic plans for the field tools that help drive in field team effectiveness. Develops project plans that align with cross departmental processes and project schedules. Acts pragmatically to provide innovative solutions, mitigate risks, manage customer priorities to deliver solutions to improve field force effectiveness
People Leadership: Provide support, foster growth, and development for direct reports. Ensure that direct reports are well equipped with resources, knowledge, and skills to assist customers with issue and projects management. Provide a path for direct reports to build cross-functional relationships to the CoE and customer stakeholders.
System Management: Works closely with key Business, IT, BTS, OEC, Regulatory and Legal stakeholders to ensure business requirements are well defined and approved. Demonstrates subject matter expertise relating to AbbVie business rules, processes, and all field tools. Proactively recommends improvements to streamline current processes and reduce cycle time. Leverages field network on co-creation of new processes and solutions.
Communications and Training: Subject Matter expert working in conjunction with the Digital Learning Team and/or our department communications member to identify training/education and communications opportunities to pull through system use. Partner with sales leadership and field champions to define and manage the deployment approach, with updates to increase awareness and pull through system use. Present at In-Field Training Classes (IFTC), provide support during field meetings, facilitate focus groups, and present systems capabilities to key internal stakeholders.
Accountability / Scope:
- May have 3-5 direct reports.
- Provides strategic franchise partnership through systems capabilities management, communications, and training.
- Provides Key Stakeholder management to VP/GMs, Sales Leadership, Marketing leadership, OEC, and Legal.
- Plans and provides task supervision to members of cross-functional project teams.
- Manages large cross-functional organizational projects.
- Interacts regularly with all levels of the organization including cross-functional and cross-divisional partners.
- Foster an inclusive team environment focused on development and growth of direct reports.
- BA, BS degree required or equivalent experience. Master's degree in business or science preferred. BA/BS required to ensure effective understanding and application of business concepts.
- The ability to work at ABV1 location at least 3 days per week is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in project management (including leadership of a significant cross-functional project), marketing or sales operations or information technology.
- Working knowledge of multiple field tools solutions and track record of integrating new technologies.
- Experience working with and directing BTS with field tools programming and development requirements is preferred.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, compliance regulations and standards preferred.
- People leadership experience is preferred.
- Veeva/Salesforce.com experience preferred.
- Able to manage multiple tasks/priorities simultaneously with strong sense of urgency.
- Strong project management, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Confidence in providing subject matter expertise to Senior Leadership, Sales Leadership, and other high-level contacts.
- Ability to clearly and confidently articulate complex and difficult concepts
- Extensive understanding of pharmaceutical field sales activities, roles, and behaviors.
- Ability to develop and deliver training and communications to large and small audiences.
- Experience in developing, deploying, and managing effective IT systems, quality control procedures, and comfort in directing low level analytics.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Ability to develop and execute innovative, creative solutions.
