Job Description
Professional Care Expectations:
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care in compliance with the scope of practice
- Receives patients into unit; obtains and documents nursing assessment, vital signs, health and social histories as applicable.
- Identifies and prioritizes for the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patient
- Provides care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
- Collaborates with other members of the health care team to ensure standards of care and practice are met
- Co-ordinates patient care in collaboration with the patient/family and members of the Interdisciplinary team
- Co-ordinates discharge planning in collaboration with the patient/family and members of the Interdisciplinary team
- Provides teaching materials and evaluates and reinforces education to staff, patients and patient’s relatives
- Liaises with community to facilitate the continuity of patient care
- Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, their families and staff
Professional Leadership Expectations
- Prioritizes patient care
- Delegates and assigns clinical tasks to the appropriate care provider in the absence of the Resource Nurse
- Acts as a mentor, coach, clinical resource, consultant, and facilitates all activities to promote excellence of care
- Demonstrates critical thinking
Organizational Responsibilities
- Code Blue team member – As per WCH Code Blue Policy
- Participates in unit and hospital committees as required
- Participates in nursing professional practice activities
- Supports a culture that encourages learning for students, staff, patients and families
- Creates and/or provides input into Nursing policies and procedures
As a role model and champion you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care.

Qualifications
- Bachelors in Nursing is preferred
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
- Recent, critical care and/or medical/surgical experience (within last 3-5 years) required
- Cardiology I & ll required (Cardiac Monitoring /Telemetry required)
- BCLS certification required
- ACLS certification obtained and/or working towards
- Emergency Nursing Certificate Program, completion or in progress is an asset
- Critical Care Certificate Program, completion or in progress preferred
- Must have strong assessment skills
- Must be able to work independently & collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills required and previous team leading experience an asset
- Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
- Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
- This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
