About Wing:
Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing’s fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on two continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. Wing is a part of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and our mission is to create the preferred means of delivery for the planet. If you're ready to do the greatest work of your life, come join us.
About the Role:
Wing is looking for a Mechatronics Engineer to join our Aircraft Development team. This role is onsite based in Palo Alto, CA. As a member of an interdisciplinary team of mechanical, mechatronics, and aeronautical engineers, you will develop the next generation of Wing’s drone technology that will define the future of aviation. From complete aircraft to critical subassemblies and the infrastructure that supports them, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
This is your chance to:
- Directly impact the future of aerospace robotics within a rapidly growing industry and watch your work improve how goods are delivered around the world.
- Use your creative and engineering skills within a collaborative environment, tackling complex challenges with cutting-edge tech like the package winching and automated loading systems and moving your solutions from lab to production.
- Bridge the gap between software and hardware by applying your skills within our fast-paced robotic systems team.
- Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative startup environment with the strong backing of Alphabet.
What You’ll Do:
- Engineer cutting-edge software and hardware solutions for our package loading subsystem, directly impacting the global scalability of our drone delivery operations.
- Work with other hardware and reliability engineers to architect and refine automated testing infrastructure to ensure the robustness and reliability of our package loading and delivery system.
- Contribute to the conceptualization, design, and prototyping of novel robotic systems and sub-assemblies for future aircraft platforms and ground infrastructure, pushing the boundaries of autonomous delivery.
- Analyze test data using SQL, Python and other tools to identify trends, diagnose issues, and drive design decisions.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace engineering.
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated ability to design, prototype, and test mechanical components or test fixtures using CAD and 3D printing.
- Practical experience troubleshooting electromechanical systems, including BLDC motors, servos, and microcontrollers.
- Proficiency in Python of Matlab for data analysis, automation, and testing.
- Practical experience with C++ for embedded systems development
- Ability to independently investigate technical issues, analyze data, and effectively communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally lift and move parts and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds for prototype assemblies and test fixtures.
- The person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the office and lab areas to build and assemble prototypes and access equipment.
