Histology Laboratory Assistant

Job Description - Overview:

Join a growing, GI Physician Office Laboratory in Purcellville, VA! We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support our histopathology team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow in a clinical laboratory setting.

Prior histology experience is preferred, but not required-were willing to train the right candidate!

Key Responsibilities

Specimen Handling

• Receive, label, and prepare tissue specimens for analysis
• Support fixation, embedding, and sectioning processes
• Triage specimens and flag discrepancies

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

• Assist with maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment (e.g., microtomes,

automated stainers)

Record Keeping

• Help maintain accurate specimen, slide, and test result logs
• Track inventory and assist with supply orders

Clerical Support

• Prepare blocks, slides, and paperwork for shipping
• Handle basic inquiries and help resolve discrepancies

Safety & Compliance

• Follow safety and quality control protocols
• Maintain adherence to regulatory guidelines

Technical Assistance

• Provide general support to lab technologists and technical staff

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Sterilize lab tools and equipment
• Monitor inventory and restock supplies as needed

Qualifications Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate's degree or related education preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

• Basic understanding of lab procedures, safety protocols, and quality control
• Ability to operate lab equipment and handle tissue samples
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and lab information systems
• Strong organizational and clerical skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work both independently and

collaboratively

Pay: From $21.00 per hour
