Position Title: Gift Shop Manager
Location: 75 White Point #2, Hunts Point, Nova Scotia, Canada
Resort Division: Resort Recreation, Retail and Activities
Reports To: Recreation & Retail Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time (hours supplemented in off season in Recreation Dept.)
Position Overview:
The Gift Shop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the shop including shift selling, staff scheduling and inventory. Hours of operation vary throughout the year; work schedule may vary Monday – Sunday. The successful applicant will be organized, detail oriented with a high level of focus on providing superior guest service.
Key Responsibilities:
· Organize all shop operations including merchandise display, pricing and sales margins.
· Allocate responsibilities to assigned personnel.
· Supervise staff and ensure product knowledge.
· Monitor stock levels and purchase inventory as required and or directed by Recreation & Retail Manager.
· Ensure the highest level of customer service is maintained.
· Plan and oversee in-shop promotions and displays.
· Sound knowledge of the local art and artisan community.
● Understand local artists and work with them to achieve their cooperation and trust. This is particularly important regarding consignment pieces.
● Communicate verbally and in writing with resort team regarding merchandise and store promotions.
● Prepare an online store for gift purchasing.
● Make presence known to customers when visiting the store (warm welcome and helpfulness).
● Interact with customers to obtain feedback on product quality and future inventory opportunities/likes.
● Respond to and handle customer concerns and complaints.
● Empower employees to provide excellent customer service.
● Develop and maintain store operational policies and work procedures.
● Work with Recreation & Retail Manager to create store business plan on annual basis.
● Ensure that applicable policies and procedures, regulatory ordinances, governing laws and generally accepted protocol and practices are followed.
● Work as part of a team to build strong relationships with local community and local businesses.
● Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program.
● Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
● Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Good communication skill.
· Understanding of exceptional customer service.
· Sales (selling) ability.
· Good people skills.
· Ability to motivate sales staff.
· Creative merchandising ability.
· Previous retail customer service experience an asset.
· Knowledge of local art community an asset.
Working Conditions
● Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays and fully prepared to accept supplement hours as a Recreation Associate.
● Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
● Stand, sit or walk for an extended period or for an entire shift
● Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
