Our client, a leader in the chemical manufacturing industry, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Development Engineer to join their innovative team in Mississauga, Ontario, CA . This critical role involves designing, developing, and optimizing chemical processes from laboratory scale through to pilot and commercial production. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, process simulation, and scale-up methodologies.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and optimization of new chemical processes and existing ones. Design and conduct experiments in laboratory and pilot plant settings to validate process parameters and feasibility. Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process descriptions. Utilize process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model and analyze process performance. Perform mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and cost estimations for new processes. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during process development, scale-up, and implementation. Collaborate closely with R&D, engineering, manufacturing, and safety teams to ensure successful technology transfer and implementation. Ensure all process designs comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., PHA, HAZOP). Write comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and documentation for process development projects. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
Required Qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in process development, scale-up, and optimization within the chemical industry. Strong theoretical knowledge and practical experience in chemical reaction engineering, separation processes, and thermodynamics. Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools. Experience with process safety management (PSM) and conducting risk assessments (PHA, HAZOP). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Experience working in a manufacturing or pilot plant environment is essential. Must be eligible to work full-time in Canada.
