Senior Power Systems Engineer

Our client, a leading innovator in sustainable energy solutions, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to join their dynamic team in Washington, D.C. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical systems for a variety of cutting-edge projects. This role requires a deep understanding of power grid operations, renewable energy integration, and advanced control systems.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and analysis of electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Develop detailed engineering specifications, schematics, and technical documentation. Conduct load flow, short circuit, stability, and protection studies using industry-standard software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP). Oversee the integration of renewable energy sources (solar, wind) and energy storage systems into existing grids. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, civil engineers, and software developers, to ensure project success. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Ensure compliance with all relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEEE, NERC). Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to power system performance. Contribute to research and development efforts for new power system technologies. Participate in site visits and project meetings as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in power system engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable. Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, CYME). Strong knowledge of power electronics, FACTS devices, and grid interconnection standards. Experience with SCADA systems and real-time control applications. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proven ability to lead projects and mentor team members. Familiarity with project management principles and practices. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing remote collaboration with in-office presence.
