Our client, a premier intellectual property law firm, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Patent Attorney to join their esteemed practice. This role is critical for providing expert legal counsel to clients on patentability, prosecution, and enforcement matters. You will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technologies, ensuring robust protection for our clients' innovations. A significant part of your role will involve conducting freedom-to-operate analyses, preparing infringement opinions, and representing clients in patent litigation and post-grant proceedings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, a deep understanding of patent law, and exceptional analytical and writing skills. You will work closely with inventors, R&D teams, and corporate clients to understand their technologies and develop effective IP strategies. This position requires a meticulous approach, excellent client management skills, and the ability to thrive in a demanding, fast-paced legal environment. Admitted to practice before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) is a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft and prosecute patent applications in diverse technological fields. Conduct prior art searches and provide patentability assessments. Advise clients on patent strategy, portfolio management, and IP due diligence. Perform freedom-to-operate analyses and render opinions on non-infringement and invalidity. Represent clients in patent litigation, administrative proceedings, and appeals. Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor. Mentor and guide junior patent attorneys and agents. Stay updated on changes in patent law and relevant technologies. Collaborate with technical experts and R&D teams to understand complex innovations. Review and advise on IP-related agreements, such as licenses and assignments.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to practice law in at least one state and registration to practice before the USPTO. Minimum of 7 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on prosecution and/or litigation. Technical degree (e.g., Bachelor's or Master's) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. Proven experience in drafting and prosecuting complex patent applications. Strong understanding of patent litigation procedures and strategies. Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Excellent client service and communication abilities. Ability to manage a diverse caseload and meet tight deadlines.
