Our client, a leading specialty chemical manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join their innovative team in Baltimore, Maryland . This role is integral to optimizing and scaling up chemical processes, ensuring product quality, safety, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, extensive experience in process design, optimization, and troubleshooting within a manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for leading process improvement initiatives, developing new manufacturing methods, and ensuring that all operations meet stringent quality and safety standards. Key responsibilities include conducting process hazard analyses (PHAs), developing P&IDs, designing experiments for process optimization, and implementing changes to improve yields, reduce waste, and enhance product consistency. The Senior Chemical Process Engineer will also play a crucial role in pilot plant operations, scale-up projects, and the transfer of technology from R&D to full-scale production. Collaboration with R&D chemists, production teams, and engineering support staff will be essential to achieve operational excellence. Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes for specialty chemicals. Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs), HAZOP studies, and develop safety protocols. Develop and review Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Design and execute experiments to improve process efficiency, yield, and product quality. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues in a manufacturing environment. Manage pilot plant operations and scale-up activities from laboratory to commercial production. Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and quality control teams to ensure seamless process transfer and implementation. Implement process improvements to reduce costs, minimize waste, and enhance sustainability. Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Stay current with new technologies and methodologies in chemical engineering and manufacturing. Qualifications:
Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, preferably in the specialty chemicals industry. Strong knowledge of unit operations, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics. Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools. Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively. Proven ability to manage projects and work collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles is a plus.
