Job Description

Our client, a global leader in procurement and supply chain solutions, is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Data Engineer to spearhead our data initiatives within the purchasing analytics domain. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that power critical business intelligence and analytical solutions for our purchasing operations worldwide. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in data engineering, cloud platforms, big data technologies, and a deep understanding of the nuances of procurement data. You will lead a team of data engineers, mentor junior talent, and collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to unlock actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and optimize robust and scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources related to purchasing and supply chain operations. Architect and implement data warehousing solutions and data lakes on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability across all data assets. Develop and maintain data models that support reporting, analytics, and machine learning initiatives for procurement. Lead a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and project oversight. Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand data requirements and provide them with clean, accessible datasets. Optimize data pipeline performance and database queries for efficiency and scalability. Implement data governance policies and best practices to ensure security and compliance. Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to enhance our data infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues promptly. Automate monitoring and alerting for data pipelines and infrastructure. Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in data engineering and big data technologies. Contribute to the strategic roadmap for the company's data platform and analytics capabilities.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field. 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on building and managing large-scale data pipelines and warehouses. Proven expertise in SQL and at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Scala, Java). Extensive experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery) and related services (e.g., S3, ADLS, GCS). Strong understanding of data modeling principles (e.g., Kimball, Inmon) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop). Experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., dbt, Talend, Informatica, Apache Airflow). Familiarity with procurement data structures and analytics is highly desirable. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote, fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
