Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal Process Engineer to join their state-of-the-art chemical manufacturing facility located in Vaughan, Ontario . This is a critical on-site role responsible for the design, optimization, and scale-up of complex chemical processes. You will lead challenging projects, applying your deep technical knowledge to solve intricate problems, improve efficiency, and ensure the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in chemical engineering principles, process simulation, and hazard analysis. You will also mentor junior engineers, contribute to strategic planning, and drive technological advancements within the process engineering domain.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the conceptual design, development, and optimization of new and existing chemical processes, from pilot scale to full commercial production. Perform detailed process simulations, mass and energy balances, and equipment sizing calculations using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Conduct thorough Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies, to identify and mitigate potential safety risks. Develop P&IDs, process control strategies, and equipment specifications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, maintenance, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution and technology transfer. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues, implementing data-driven solutions to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance operational efficiency. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes in chemical engineering and process safety. Mentor and guide junior process engineers, fostering their technical development and contribution to projects. Contribute to the development of long-term process technology roadmaps and capital investment plans. Ensure all process designs and operations comply with safety, environmental, and quality regulations. Author technical reports, procedure documents, and design reviews. Qualifications:
Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in process engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industry. Proven expertise in process design, scale-up, simulation, and optimization. In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles and hazard analysis techniques (HAZOP, LOPA). Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD) and CAD tools. Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and reaction kinetics. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. Professional Engineer (PE) designation is highly preferred. Experience in managing complex projects and leading technical teams is a significant asset.
