Our client, a leading innovator in the specialty chemicals sector, is seeking an exceptional Principal Chemical Process Engineer to join their esteemed research and development team in Vaughan, Ontario, CA . You will be instrumental in driving key R&D projects from laboratory concept to pilot plant and full-scale production, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities: Lead the conceptualization, design, and optimization of chemical processes for new product development and existing manufacturing improvements. Conduct detailed process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to predict performance and identify optimization opportunities. Perform rigorous process hazard analyses (PHAs), HAZOP studies, and LOPA to ensure the safety and integrity of chemical processes. Oversee pilot plant operations and scale-up studies, translating laboratory findings into robust, large-scale manufacturing processes. Develop and maintain detailed Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications. Collaborate with R&D scientists, chemists, and other engineers to integrate process design with product development goals. Provide technical expertise and guidance on process control strategies, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and separation technologies. Troubleshoot complex operational issues in manufacturing plants, developing and implementing effective solutions. Author and review technical reports, research papers, and patent applications related to process innovations. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical training and development of the engineering team. Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations throughout the process lifecycle. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in chemical process design, development, and scale-up within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry. Demonstrated expertise in reaction engineering, distillation, extraction, crystallization, and other separation techniques. Advanced proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD). In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles and methodologies. Strong understanding of chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and transport phenomena. Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and manage cross-functional teams. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including technical report writing and presentation skills. Experience with pilot plant operations and scale-up is essential. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is highly desirable. Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
