Principal Chemical Process Engineer

Our client, a leading innovator in the chemical industry, is seeking an exceptional Principal Chemical Process Engineer to join their advanced research and development team. This critical role, based at our state-of-the-art facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, IN , will focus on designing, optimizing, and scaling up complex chemical processes. You will be instrumental in translating laboratory innovations into viable commercial production, ensuring efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in process design, simulation, scale-up, and troubleshooting within the chemical manufacturing sector. You will lead challenging projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including R&D chemists, mechanical engineers, and operations personnel. A strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement is essential.

Responsibilities: Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes from conceptualization through to commercialization. Perform process simulations using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Conduct detailed engineering calculations, including mass and energy balances, reaction kinetics, and equipment sizing. Lead process scale-up activities, ensuring smooth transitions from pilot plant to full-scale production. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues in existing operations. Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Ensure all process designs comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Write technical specifications for process equipment and instrumentation. Collaborate with R&D, operations, and safety teams to achieve project objectives. Mentor and guide junior chemical engineers. Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in chemical engineering. Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and project proposals. Manage project timelines and budgets effectively. Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies. Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, with significant experience in design and scale-up. Demonstrated expertise in process simulation, modeling, and optimization. Strong knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. Experience with PFDs, P&IDs, and PHA methodologies. Proficiency in relevant chemical engineering software. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Proven leadership and project management capabilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. Professional Engineer (PE) certification is a plus.
